Deep tissue massage therapy, with slower and deeper pressure, is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer that surrounds muscles, bones and joints).
This massage technique uses slow strokes, deep pressure, and friction to realign muscles and connective tissues. It focuses on large areas using fists, elbows, forearms and works to “break” tension in the muscles, providing greater freedom of movement. Muscle tissue is stretched and separated, providing better blood circulation.
A common problem is that tight muscles can block nutrients and oxygen from getting where they need to go, causing inflammation and the production of toxins that build up in the muscle tissue. Inflammation and toxins contribute to pain and stress.
